Summer Learning Community: A Church Called Tov

You are invited to join the Elevation Community in a learning community that will read the book A Church Called Tov together over the summer. We believe this is the perfect book for our community in this season of transition for a variety of reasons. The subtitle of this book is “Forming a Goodness Culture That Resists Abuses of Power and Promotes Healing”. As we move forward as a church, we believe it is incredibly important to have conversations about cultivating a culture of goodness that resists power abuses and promotes healing. With structural renewal in view in the fall, this learning community will serve us by providing a conversational space for some of the governance and policy changes we need to make.

How will it work?

We’ll provide a reading plan for the community to read this book together. We’ll come together five times over the course of the summer (every other Wednesday evening on Zoom) to discuss and reflect on a few chapters.

When will it take place?

Every other Wednesday evening on Zoom throughout the summer from 7:30pm-9pm.

July 6 – Introduction through Chapter 2

July 20 – Chapters 3-5

August 3 – Chapters 6-8

August 17 – Chapters 9-11

August 31 – Chapter 12 and any concluding reflections on the book

How to get the book

You can purchase the book through any major bookstore or vendor including through Amazon.ca (~$30) or the kindle version (~$23). Or you can purchase a book through a bulk order that we will make on June 22nd. You can pay for the book through Church Center when you register or with cash in person (see Steve Coupland or Melissa Burke). If the cost of the book is a barrier, we’d encourage you to reach out to someone to arrange sharing a book or feel free to choose the “subsidized book” option when registering and we will cover the cost of the book (either half or full). We’d love to have as many people engaged in this learning together as possible!
